Britain sends destroyer into the South Atlantic

Six-month mission is denounced by Argentina as an attempt to "militarize" the dispute over sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands

The British destroyer HMS Dauntless sailed Wednesday toward the South Atlantic for a six-month mission, presented as routine, but denounced by Argentina as an attempt by Britain to "militarize" the dispute over sovereignty of the Falkland Islands.

Dozens of people gathered at the port of Portsmouth in southern England to monitor the output of next-generation destroyer.

The departure of HMS Dauntless happens on the eve of the 30th anniversary of the output of the first ships sent by the then British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher to recover the Falklands archipelago, after landing Argentine who started the war on April 2, 1982.
